The funeral of Mrs. Sallie Johnson, widow of Major William Johnson, whose death occured [sic] near Columbus Sunday, was held at the family residence yesterday, Rev. M.M. Lawson of Nashville officiating. Mrs. Johnson was one of the oldest and best known ladies of Hempstead county, being 80 years old at the time and a member of the county's pioneer families. She was the mother of Jo J. Johnson, Mrs. David Wilson and Mrs. J.G. Hill of Columbus. Herbert Wilson, members [sic] of the Arkansas Railroad Commission of Little Rock, and Clyde Hill of Hope, were grandsons. She is survived by many other relatives in the county. A number of persons attended the funeral from Hope, among them being Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Hill, S.H. Briant and family and Mrs. Emma Johnson. Herbert Wilson and wife were also present.
Interment was in Columbus Cemetery and the floral offerings were many and beautiful.
