William moved to Wilcox County, Alabama with his family after the death of his mother. His father, Thomas, had remarried. There were 8 brothers and sisters to William David.

A letter written by William David Bolin in SC to his half brother in Clarke Co., Alabama is in possession of Walter Ashley Davis, Jr, Jackson, Alabama. He sent a copy of said letter to me on May 19, 2004.

A letter written to John Andrew Bolen Sr on February 14, 1860 reads as follows:

State of South Carolina Orange Burge District

Dear Brother I take my _______- to in form you that I Received your letter last knight Dated the 14th of Nov 1859 Which gave me greate sattisfaction to heare from you. All worist more and to heare that you all are dewing well in this world and are fareing to dew well in the next. I can say to you that I an not dewing sowell at this time though We are all well at this time and I hope that these lines may find you all the same. I can say to you that we have had 8 children 3 are dead 5 living, I know about 3 weaks old know crying in the bed you brote that you was tired of wrighting and you thout that I got tired or paper was scarse I will bet that I put more on one sid of my little letter than you put on the hole of your big letter you wright. So scattern makes you think that you write so mutch times are hard heare. we had alight crop yeare last yeare. Corn in places are one dollar and twenty five cts per bushel florie are from 9 to 10 dollars per barrell.

You rote that Henrys wife said that she said that she had one of puretys little girls that I ever saw You tell Joanna that I have got one by the name of Joanna that can bear hern surtain. Altell her that I have got several purety good lookin fellows. If she could see them I have one by the name of Daniel Thomas another Martha Mary Elen 1 Mark Mansil and one not yet name. 3 dead George William Henry another Harmon William.. John Andrew nothing more at this time. Give my respects to all the family and except the same to your self. Let them all read for them selfes tell George and Henry that I think that tha could write to me onst in awhile if tha would try.
