On Oct. 23, 1878 Richard married Susan Ann "Susie" Sharpe (1856-1944). She was the daughter of William Harrison Sharpe (abt 1822-aft 1880) and Hannah Lyon (abt 1822-aft 1880).
Richard and Susie were married for 32 years and had five known children. They are listed in Susie's memorial.
Richard died on Mar. 15, 1911 in Jefferson Co., KY at the age of 51. He was buried in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Hardin Co., KY.
His wife, Susie, who did not remarry, died on Sept. 2, 1944 in Louisville (Portland), Jefferson Co., KY at the age of 88. She was buried in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Irvington, Breckinridge Co., KY.
