**Note: According to Edward's tombstone he served in the Mexicar War between 1845-1848.

Edward Goodnight was the son of Edward Goodnight born in KY abt 1788 & Sarah "Sally" Dye born in Mercer Co., KY, on Dec. 24, 1807. He had the following siblings: John B. Goodnight, Harrison Goodnight, & William C. Goodnight.

He married Mary Polly Dye (also buried at Rice) in Ralls Co., MO, on June 7, 1833; Mary was born in KY June 19, 1818, the daughter of Fauntleroy Dye & Elizabeth Young.

Edward & Mary were living in Audrain Co., MO, in 1850, but sometime between 1850 & 1860 they had moved to Cooke Co., Tx, where their daughter Sarah married in 1852. Edward was a minister in the Christian Church. In 1860, they had moved to Benton Co., AR; then by 1870 they had moved on to Corry, Dade Co., MO, where Edward continued his ministry.

Edward Goodnight & Molly Polly Dye had the following children: William Goodnight b. in MO in 1834; Elizabeth D. Goodnight Daird b. May 20, 1835 in MO; Jacob Dye Goodnight born in MO, Mar. 30, 1838; Sarah Frances Goodnight b. Feb. 9, 1837; Harrison G. Goodnight born in 1840; Martha J. Goodnight Ketcherside b. in MO in 1841; Ann Eliza Goodnight Wilkerson b. in 1843; James Harvey Goodnight b. in 1845; Susan Jane Goodnight Wayne b. in 1847; Lucinda Goodnight Long b. in MO in 1849; Mary Margret Goodnight born in AR in 1853 d. Mar 11, 1854; William Goodnight b. in TX in 1854; Edward Goodnight born in MO in 1855; and Emily Paulina Goodnight Scott b. in TX in 1857.
