FRUITA--Theron James Erickson, 19, died at 2 a.m. today at Lower Valley Hospital, apparently the victim of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. According to a sheriff's report, Erickson had been arguing with his wife in an upstairs bedroom of their home when he suddenly jumped out of bed, grabbed a .38 caliber pistol and shot himself in the head. The sheriff's office received the report at 11:15 p.m. Tuesday. Deputy county coroner Jack Snyder said today there might be an inquest into the circumstances surrounding the death, "but all indications now are that it was a suicide." "We are awaiting an autopsy report and another conference with the sheriff's office before we decide on the inquest," Snyder said. Erickson was born July 16, 1947, at Grand Junction and attended Fruita schools. He married Mildred Littleton at Fruita on June 18, 1966. She survives. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his mother, Mrs. Euna Erickson of Frutia; a sister, Thelma Erickson of Fruita; and two brothers, Don of Pueblo and Robert of Grand Junction. Starks Funeral Home in Fruita is in charge of arrangements.
