OBITUARY: "Blomington Telephone"; pg I, Saturday, 24 Jan 1942;
David E. BURKS, age 87, a retired stone quarry worker, died Friday afternoon at the home of his neice, Mrs. Gretta MEADOWS, 416 North Jackson street as a result of complications from a fall two weeks ago. Mr. BURKS was in fairly good health before his accident but had been bedfast since that time.
Survivors include seven sons and daughters: Mrs. William L. HOLLER, Mrs. W. N. SMITH, Mrs. Charles FULLER, Ernest BURKS, Frank BURKS, and Mrs. Edward HENDRICKS, all of Blomington; and Mrs. Sherman HELMS, of Solsberry; 32 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren. Two of Mr. BURKS' children are deceased.
The deceased was born in Greene county, Oct 22, 1854 the son of Mr. and Mrs. John BURKS.
Funeral rites will be held at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the chapel of the Weir Funeral home. The services will be conducted by Brother Clevely LLOYD. Singing will be by the Hendricksville quartet. Burial will follow in the Valhalla Memorial park. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers and flower bearers.
The body has been remeoved to the home of Mrs. MEADOWS, 416 North Jackson Street, where it will remain until noon Sunday.
