Kenneth Edward Meyers, born Jan. 26, 1926, passed away in Provo, UT on April 6, 2015. Kenneth is free from his failing body and has had a joyous reunion with his eternal companion and many other loved ones who were waiting for him.
Kenneth was the son of Frank and Orilla Richards. At the time of Kenneth’s birth, they were living in Reedsport, OR. Kenneth spent his early years in several Oregon towns: Myrtle Point, Dallas, Coburg, Eugene, Springfield, Cottage Grove and Santa Clara. His father had a photo shop. He had 5 brothers and 3 sisters. When Kenneth was 13, his mother passed away from heart disease. 18 months later, his father passed away from lung cancer. Kenneth then went to live with his brother, Fred, and his wife, Rose, who raised him during his teenage years. Kenneth worked at the railroad, the flax plant and Eugene Fruit Growers Assoc. Kenneth quit school in 1943 and enlisted in the Navy during World War II. He traveled the world during his service. He served valiantly. All 6 Meyers brothers served in the military during WWII, 5 during the same several months period.
Upon his return home his brother, Fred, and he drilled wells for 2 years. It was at this time that Fred’s wife met the LDS missionaries, and began to make fun of the Mormons. Kenneth went to church just to spite her, came to know that it was true, and was forever active after that.
Kenneth met his sweetheart, Delpha Alene Freeman, in Salem, Oregon. They were married on July 27, 1949 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They moved to Provo, Utah, where Kenneth attended Brigham Young University for a short time. They then moved back to Oregon where he held various jobs. He and Delpha moved to Dallas and then to Eugene, OR. Shortly after that he got a job at L.H. Morris Electric as an apprentice. He then started his career as an electrician. Kenneth and Delpha raised their young family in Springfield, Oregon, where they resided for many years. There they raised their family of 3 daughters and 3 sons: Carol Ann (Cary) Carter, Beverly Joann (Trev) Harmon, Mary Joyce (Kurt) Heiner, Kenneth Edward (Mindy) II, Charles Dean, and Frank Conrad.
Kenneth was known as the fastest electrician in many counties. He could rough-wire a new gas station in a day. He easily lifted a 350 lb. anvil in and out of his pickup truck as needed. He was an incredible example of honesty, hard work and diligence. He owned many houses and buildings and loved acquiring new properties and old automobiles. He was a wonderful provider which allowed Delpha to stay at home and raise the children.
Kenneth served many LDS stake missions. He and Delpha served a service mission in Cove Fort, UT while living in Meadow, UT. He also served as a Branch President, High Priest Group Leader, and Sunday School President. He was always an example to everyone of someone who lived the gospel and who loved the Savior. His advice to his grandchildren is “Live the gospel”. He was faithful in all his callings and home teaching.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Orilla Richards Meyers, his sweetheart, Delpha Alene Freeman Meyers, a son, Robert Conrad, who was born prematurely and lived just a few hours, his siblings, Frank, Fred, Donnette, Charles, Betty, and Pat, and a granddaughter, Kimberly Meyers. He is survived by his brothers, Joe Meyers and Rodney Meyers, and his children Carol, Bev, Mary, Ken, Charlie and Frank, and by 27 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on April 11, 2015, at 11:00 am, at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main St., Bountiful, UT. Family and friends may call from 9:30-10:45. Interment at Provo City Cemetery at 1:30.
