Burial will be in Whitehouse Cemetery under direction of Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home, Lufkin.

Mr. Sheffield died April 19, 2007, at his residence.

He was born July 23, 1925, in Jasper to Lane and Maggie Sheffield in Jasper., He was a 1943 graduate of Jasper High School and served in the Navy during World War II aboard the aircraft carrier USS Core (ACV-13) in the Aleutian Islands theater and in the Naval Air Transport Service. He attended North Texas State College in Denton and completed careers with Shell Oil Co. after 29 years and Temple-Inland with 10 years, working in Houston, Tyler, Corpus Christi and Diboll. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lufkin.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Doris; sons, James Clyde Sheffield Jr. and Thomas Michael Sheffield; daughters, Mary Virginia Sheffield-Smith, Margaret Anne Hampton and Catherine Elizabeth Sheffield-Beam; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
