Dicy Dykes was a daughter of James Joseph Dykes and Polly Brandon. She was born in Greene, Hawkins County, Tenn. In 1845 her father, James, a native of same county (born June 8, 1803), moved to and settled in Appanoose County, Iowa, where he died in Walnut City on Nov 15, 1853. Dicy's mother, Polly [nee Brandon] of Irish descent, born Apr 8, 1806 in Greene, Hawkins County, Tenn. and died Nov 21, 1863 in Walnut City, Appanoose County, Iowa.

Dicy married Samuel Andrew Springston Sept 16, 1869 in Anderson County, Kansas. He was the son of Jacob and Susan Stout Springston of Anderson County, Kansas. To this marriage he brought four children being a recent widower. Dicy had a child, Clara Eva on 17 Sep 1870 in Walker Township, Anderson County, Kansas with Samuel.

Clara Eva married Lewis Elwin Thompson. Lewis was the son of George and and Mary Perrin Thompson, both from Ohio who both died in Kansas. Clara and Lewis are buried in Creek County, Oklahoma. They had eight children, two daughters: Verna Leweva and Mildred E, and six sons: George Samuel, Elden V, Glen Elwin, Robert Dewey, Harold Samuel, and Donald Ellit Thompson.

Dicy Dykes had nine siblings, six brothers: Henry, John, Landon, Thomas, Nathaniel and Francis, and three sisters: Alzira Dykes, Mary Ann Dykes Stone and Martha Dykes White.
