Oscar Michael Klein, 79 of Alton, IA died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011 at Orange City Health Systems Hospital in Orange City, IA.

Funeral Service will be Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, IA with Rev. Paul Eisele officiating & Rev Doug Klein concelebrating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Alton, IA. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, 2011. There will be a parish rosary at 5p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., followed by a 4th degree Knights of Columbus chalice presentation, all at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton.

Oscar was born, Mar. 13, 1932, the son of William & Clara (Hoffmann) Klein. Oscar was raised on a farm southeast of Hospers, Iowa. He graduated from St. Anthony's School in Hospers, Iowa. He worked for various farmers in the area. He served in the US Army as an MP from 1953 to 1955.

He married Marie Freking on January 19, 1957, in Hospers, Iowa. They lived in Hospers until moving to a farm near Ashton in 1959. In 1963, they moved to a farm southeast of Alton, Iowa. In 1985 they moved to an acreage near Carnes, Iowa. He continued to farm and also worked at Bomgaars in LeMars, Iowa as a small engine repairman. They moved to the town of Alton in June 2006.

Oscar was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Floyd Post 200 American Legion, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, he served on the Coop Oil Board of Directors, was a member of Spalding Catholic High School Board and St. Mary's School Board and St. Mary's Parish Board. He was president of St. Mary's School Bus Association for many years. Oscar was an active member and officer of the National Farmers Organization, American Legion and Knights of Columbus. He was a Eucharistic Minister for St. Mary's Catholic Parish at Alton, Iowa. He served on the Sioux County Veterans Affairs Commission. He enjoyed family celebrations, bowling, golfing, woodworking, watching all sports and having coffee with the guys.

Survivors include: his wife, Marie Klein of Alton, IA; five sons, Mark & his wife Jolene (Kosse) Klein of Wakefield, NE, Mike Klein of Denver, NC, Steve Klein of Frisco, TX, Dan & his wife Wendy (Hoftiezer) Klein of Sioux Falls, SD, Kevin Klein of New York City, NY; eight grandchildren: Eric and wife Danielle, Aaron, Josh, Stephanie, Ryan, Marcus, Rebecca, Ben Klein, four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Agnes Vortherms and her husband, Leo, of Westbrook, Minnesota, and Germaine McCoy and her husband, Bob, of Mountain Home, Idaho; three brothers, Vincent Klein and his wife, Marilyn of Hospers, Iowa, Norbert Klein and his wife, Joan of Sanborn, Iowa, and Arthur Klein of Ames, Iowa, one Brother in law: Leo & Karen Freking of Hospers, IA, four Sisters-in-law, Sister Edwardine Freking of Dubuque, IA, Catharine Portz of Hospers, IA Sister Angeline Freking of Dubuque, IA Louise & Jim Auchstetter of Hospers, IA, many nieces and nephews.

Preceded by: his parents, two daughters Patricia Ann Klein & Rose Marie Klein. two brothers, Leonard Klein, Ambrose Klein & his wife Blanche, one sister, Mildred Goebel &her husband Linus, one brother-in-law, Bernard Portz.

Casket Bearers will be Oscar's grandchildren: Eric, Aaron, Josh, Stephanie, Ryan, Marcus, Rebecca, and Ben Klein.
