There will be a funeral service for Parnell at 11 am Saturday November 19, 2011 at Faith Lutheran Church in Washington. Pastor John Rothfusz will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is handling arrangements.
Parnell served two years in the United States Army. He was rejected for service many times and classified as 4F for health reasons but would not take no for an answer. He continued to apply until they accepted him. He faithfully fought the front lines in Germany. He was awarded the Victory Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Battle Stars, two overseas service bars, Army of Occupation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
After his service to our country he worked 60 years as a foreman in the Steamfitters Local 353 in Peoria. He retired in 1985. Later he worked as a parts delivery person for ATS. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church the American Legion and a lifetime member of AMVets. He also belonged to Central Illinois metal detectors.
He loved hunting, camping and fishing, spending time with his family, garage sales, and could fix anything. He especially loved his dog Gigi.
