During the 1920 census Edward, Eleanor and their two daughters Alice and Irene were living on South Fourth Street in the 1st Ward of Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana and he was the manager of an opera house. In 1930, he, Eleanor and Irene were in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana and he was engaged in the theatrical amusements business.
Before his death in 1940, he was a painter living at 95 Tremont Street in Taunton.

In this city May 15, 1940 Edward F. Galligan, beloved husband of Eleanor (Gibbons) Galligan. Funeral from his late residence 95 Tremont Street Friday May 17 at 8 o'clock. High Mass of Requiem at St. Paul's church at 9 o'clock.
Edward F. Galligan, 67, contractor and formerly interested in the theater business died at his home 95 Tremont Street this morning after a day's illness. A native of Taunton, Mr. Galligan was away from the city for 25 years and was active in the theater management business in the mid-west. Since his return to Taunton he had been engaged in the painting contracting business. He was a communicant of St. Paul's Church. He leaves his wife Mrs. Eleanor (Gibbons) Galligan; a sister Mrs. Mary Gorman, and two daughters, Miss Irene Galligan of Taunton and Mrs. Lawrence Cashman of Columbus, Ohio, and two grandchildren.
