Honora Troy was born in Dublin County, Ireland in February, 1848, the daughter of Patrick Troy and Honora Leehan Troy. At the age of 13, she left her native Ireland and arrived in New York on April 21, 1861. She lived in New York with her sister Mary Troy Hackett and Mary's husband Thomas Hackett. She later moved with the Hacketts to Detroit, Michigan where she met and married Lawrence Cosgrove in 1874. In 1882 Honora and Lawrence moved and settled in Villard, MN where they were among the first farmers to settle there. They had nine children, five of whom survived to adulthood: Thomas, Mary (Mamie), Josephine, Lawrence, and John. Her husband Lawrence died in 1918 and is buried beside her on her right, daughter Mary (Mamie) Cosgrove Smith, who died in 1945, is buried beside her on her left. She was an extremely religious Catholic, saying the Rosary daily, known for her sense of humor and love of reading books, expecially Westerns.
