William Martin Amason was the 10th child and 4th son of Christopher Oliver Amason and Alfred Carolina "Collie" Lewis.
Family lore says he was born in Gracen County, Texas.

When he was not quite a year old, Willy's family traveled to Oklahoma Territory to participate in the Land Run of 1889. They were unsuccessful in the land claim, returning to Texas not long after.

In 1899, when Willy was 10 years old, while returning to Texas from a trip to Oklahoma, Willy's mother, "Collie" died on the trail. She was buried near Wynnewood, Oklahoma.

His father, and siblings continued on to Texas, and remained there until shortly after 1900, when Christopher took his children back to Oklahoma. He settled his family near Konawa. They sharecropped and cut and sold wood to make a living.

In 1912, Will married Myrtle Ruby Gourley. After their marriage, they lived and farmed near Konawa, in Seminole County, Oklahoma. Their two boys grew up on the farm.
