JOSEPH H. STECKER, 25 years old, a musician in the Company D Band, U. S. Army, stationed at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, died early yesterday, according to a telegram received by relatives in St. Louis yesterday. His father, Henry Stecker of Clayton, Missouri, went to his bedside on Monday when he learned of his son's illness from influenza.
Stecker was for several years a clerk in the office of the recorder of deeds in Clayton, Missouri. He enlisted in the Missouri National Guard and later in the Fifth Regiment, being transferred to a band because of his abilities as a clarinet player. STECKER -- on Thursday, Oct. 17, 1918, at 5:43 a.m. at Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, JOSEPH HENRY STECKER, beloved son of Henry and Dena Stecker (nee Schafer), and dear brother of Bernard, Edith, Alice, Paul, Florence, and Elizabeth Stecker, and member of D Company Band, U. S. Army, at the age of 25 years, 11 months, 8 days.
Funeral will be on Monday, Oct. 21, at 8:30 a.m. from family residence, 105 Central Avenue, Clayton, Missouri to St. Joseph's Church, thence to Central Cemetery. Funeral will be private.
