Joseph O. Ezzyk
Loved selling produce at family roadside stand
Joseph O. Ezzyk, 81, of Berwick, North Centre Township, died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011, at the Orangeville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Berwick on Feb. 17, 1930, he was a son of the late Michael Ezzyk and Catherine (Nodich) Ezzyk. He was husband to Mary (Sabanos) Ezzyk. They were married June 30, 1956, and had celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.
Joe was a graduate of Berwick High School and had served in the U.S. Army National Guard. He later worked for the Chrysler Corporation in Delaware; the Shell Plant in Berwick; Berwick Forge & Fabricating; Lifestyle Homes; Shelhamer Orchards; and was a farmer all his life.
Joe loved selling produce at the family roadside stand on Route 93 between Berwick and Orangeville. He also loved hunting, bowling, baseball games, having coffee with his buddies and telling stories to his family and friends.
He belonged to Ss. Cyril & Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church, Berwick.
He was a member of the Ukrainian Citizens Club; League of Ukrainian Catholics and the Berwick VFW.
In addition to his wife, Mary, Joe is survived by his children: Martin Ezzyk and his wife, Ellen, David Ezzyk, Richard Ezzyk and his wife, Jeannie, Randy Ezzyk and his wife, Stacey, all reside in Berwick.
Joe will also be remembered by his nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and the following siblings: George Ezzyk and his wife, Edna, Spring Hill, Fla.; Helen Dyer, Orangeville; Catherine Jasinski and husband, Millard, Berwick; Alice Starr and husband, Pete, Berwick; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and the following siblings: Alex, Albert, John, Michael and William Ezzyk; Mary Zenzel; Anna Rich; and Sophie Makar.
Friends will be received Friday, Nov. 18, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the McMichael & Rairigh Funeral Home Inc., 119-121 E. Third St., Berwick. A Parastas service will begin at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A second visitation will begin Saturday morning at 9 at the funeral home. Divine Liturgy will begin at 10 a.m. with the Rev. John Seniw at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church, First Avenue and Warren Street, Berwick. Interment with military honors will be in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to one of the following organizations: National Parkinson Foundation; Alzheimer's Association; or the American Cancer Society.
