David Starling and his brothers Robert and Abraham Starling served in the Civil War.

David T. Starling of the 1st TN appears on a "Report of Prisoners belonging to the Rebel Army in Custody of Provost Marshal, Memphis TN" dated July 31, 1863. He was captured near Germantown TN on July 29/30, 1863. He "volunteered" to join the Northern forces as a "galvanized yankee". David was part of Co. G 6th US Vol Infantry.
