Mrs. Black was the widow of W. R. Black, Sr., who died 15 years ago.
She was born February 15, 1880, at Wyandotte, Kan., daughter of James and Awilda Mapes Bliss, and came west to the Pagosa area with her parents, who were interested in mining.
At Pagosa she met Warden R. Black and they were married in early 1901. Together they began and followed a busy life that encompassed mining, sawmills, and business in Holbrook, Ariz., and in California.
Mrs. Black was the helpmate in all the enterprises along with rearing a large family. They then came to Del Norte in 1927, and Warden had sawmills around the district, principally on the embargo at at Summitville. He retired in 1945.
Mrs. Black was a life memeber of Pythian Sisters and Rio Del Co. chapter pianist for years.
Until a few years ago, she made an annual migration to and from Carlsbad, N.M., fall and spring. She was an extremely active, self-reliant, observing lady.
She is survived by three sons, Warden, Jr., Sonora, Calif., Ernest and Barney, city, one daughter, Margaret Allen, Carlsbad, a sister and brother each, 20 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren. Three daughters, Edna, Lorena and Mildred are deceased.
The Rev. Lee Corey officiated and Pythian Sisters were in charge at the cemetary.
Pallbearers were Forrest Robran, Roy Moreland, Ed Higman, Earl Rice, Donald Miller and Henry Zeiler. Honoraries were Jewel Moreland, Loyd Martz, Floyd Duncan and Cal Maley.
