Colorado Pioneer. Col. James Archer was an Irish businessman who built Denver's first gas works and introduced gas lights in 1871. He also built the first piped water system in the City, and founded the Denver City Water Company. Col. Archer was instrumental in bringing the Kansas Pacific Railroad to Denver in 1870.

2011 I recently recieved this information have not validated it however....Col James Archer is NOT buried in Riverside Cemetery...it's nothing more than a monument. Mr Archer is actually buried at Bellfontaine Cemetery in St Louis, MO. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=88638769
