UNION, SC - Kathryn Annette (Turner) Harkins,58,...widow of Harold Floyd Harkins, died January 15, 1996, in the Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness. Mrs. Harkins was born in Laurens County on April 14, 1937, a daughter of the late Claude Sims and Jessie (Knighton) Turner. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, the church choir, the Adult Ladies Sunday School class, and the "Women in Action" of the church. She was a graduate of Union High School and was employed with Milliken & Company, Cedar Hill Plant.
Mrs. Harkins was predeceased by two sisters: Elizabeth (Turner) Garner and Pearl (Turner) Fulbright Wisham. Mrs. Harkins was survived by two daughters: Kathy Renee (Harkins) Belue and Cheryl Lynn (Harkins) Edwards, both of Union, SC; a sister: Mary Sue (Turner) Black of Titusville, FL; three brothers: Jim Turner of Douglas, GA, Bill Turner and Wofford Turner, both of Union, SC; five grandchildren: Ricky Daniel Belue, Kathryn Ann Belue, Brittany Leah Edwards, Jordan alyssa Edwards, and Rebekah Kayce Edwards, all of Union; and a great-granddaughter: Rachel nicole Belue of Jonesville, SC.
Funeral services were held at Fairview Baptist Church with the Reverend Robert Cato and the Reverend Ron Culbertson officiating. Active pallbearers were: Mike Moore, Mike Bennett, Jimmy Grner, David Turner, Joseph Edwards, and Perry May. Burial was in Rosemont Cemetery of Union, SC. Memorials may be made to the building fund or to the mission fund of Fairview Baptist Church, 1338 Santuck-Carlisle Highway, Union, SC 29379. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral home ministered.
