First marriage Sept 9, 1860 in Watertown, Carver Cty, MN to Elisabeth Margaretha Mueller. They had John (Anna Becker), Marie Rosa (Edwin A Dressel), Albert W (Augusta Hoeft), and Charles. According to Carver Cty Hist Society, Elisabeth died 25 Oct 1874 from "falling off a wagon." (Elisabeth's gravesite currently unknown).

Frederick was a soldier in the civil war from 1863-1865 and has a service and pension file available in Washington DC.

On Feb 2, 1875 he married Bertha Jopp, twin sister of Leopold Jopp. Fred and Bertha had Bertha Rosa (George Becker), Clara Emily (Gustavus Arnold), Emma (Frank Oestreich), Frederick G (Lena Oestreich), Martha (Frank Venske), and Otto (Clara Hill).
