Mr. and Mrs. Samuel McLaughlin, venerable residents of this vicinity, are united in death. She passed away last Monday, March 29, and he answered the final call Friday, just one day after her funeral services were conducted.

The McLaughlins celebrated their 67 wedding anniversary last December and both had been very ill for some time. His condition was so serious at the time she passed away, that doubts were expressed as to whether he would live until the funeral.

This is the third member in the family to answer the final call in the last three months, as a son Seldon, was a victim of pneumonia in February.

Services were conducted by the Rev. John Jess at the First Baptist church, Monday afternoon with burial in the Yankee street cemetery, beside his late wife.

Samuel Alonzo McLaughlin, son of Rachel and Samuel B. McLaughlin, was born, Dec. 17, 1847, in Marshall county. He has been a resident of this vicinity all his life and a member of the Baptist church since a young man.

He was united in marriage to Hulda Augusta Schultz, Dec. 17, 1869 at Sparland, Ill. To this union was born nine children, six of them preceding them in death. He passed away April 2, 1937 at the age of 89 years, 3 months and 16 days.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Lillian Stucker, Davenport, Iowa; Mrs. Hulda Sweeney, Chillicothe; and one son, Milford McLaughlin of Albuquerque, New Mexico; sixteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren and many other relatives.
