Lillard S. Burton, age 87, of Carlinville, Il. and formerly of Palmyra, Il. passed on Sunday (November 13, 2011) at Carlinville Area Hospital in Carlinville, Il. He was born December 11, 1923 in Cedar Crest, Kentucky son of the late William and Lillie Maude Eller Burton. He married Alta E. White on November 15, 1947 in Woodriver, Il. and she preceded him in death in 1999.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary Jo Ragan and husband Walter of Girard, Il. and Renee Lyons and husband Mike of Waverly, Il.; and a son, Tim Burton and wife Peg of Palmyra, Il.; fifteen grandchildren; twenty one great-grandchildren; two sisters, Flossie Condo of Vandalia, Il. and Mary Vie Shimboff and husband Chris of Effingham, Il.; two brothers, Ottis Burton and wife Loretta of Wrights, Il. and Daniel Burton of Hardin, Il.; and many nieces and nephews. Lillard was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one great-granddaughter, London Clancy; two sisters, Mossie Roberts and Audrey McDonald; three brothers, Osborne Burton, William Burton, and Bert Burton.

He was a laborer and farmed near Palmyra, Il. as well as in Sangamon and Greene Counties. He loved woodworking and also loved to garden. He was a member of Blooming Grove Christian Church near Palmyra, Il. He was a veteran of W.W. II and Korea who served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Services were entrusted to Stults-Neece Funeral Home of Waverly, Illinois.
