Bernard was a graduate of Marietta High School in 1949, Miami University in 1953, and Texas A & M in 1968. He was a retired Lt. Col. of the United States Air Force (21 years), Arizona Public Service and a Realtor for Coldwell Banker.
He was married to Betty E. Scott for 36 years, now deceased. Five sons from this marriage survive: John (Kathy) of Verona, Pa., David of Bowie, Md., Michael (Lucy) of Goodyear, Ariz, Patrick of Flagstaff, Ariz., and William (Shelly) of Brush Prairie, Wash.; three granddaughters, Danielle, Lauren, Ali; and one brother, Neil (Jeanette) of Marietta, Ohio.
He is survived by his wife, Darryle, of Waddell, Ariz. and five stepchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Services were held on Oct. 31, 2011, at the Nazarene Church of Peoria, Ariz. Burial will be at the Sunland Memorial Park, Sun City, Ariz.
