After being discharged from the service, the Davis' moved back to Iowa. Darrell worked at the Skelly Gas Station for several months. They then moved 3 miles south of Woodburn on the Delmar Bryant farm, which they rented and Darrell farmed with his dad. They lived there from October, 1956, until after Darrell's death, when Thelma moved to Osceola.
Darrell enjoyed playing sports in high school and later with the Woodburn mens' softball team. He was an Iowa Hawkeyes and Kansas City Royals fan. He and Thelma also enjoyed watching movies together.
