Esther "Ettie" Bohannan Gwathmey was one of the children born to Wilson Bohannan, Sr. and his wife Anna M. Ettie's father developed the WilsonBohannan padlock, receiving his first patent in 1860.

Ettie was united in marriage in 1882 in Brooklyn, New York to Edwin Linville Gwathmey. Ettie and Edwin did not have any children during their short marriage.

Ettie passed away at the young age of 39. She did leave a will which listed her husband and siblings.
