Born Muriel Catherine Barnes on November 17, 1918 in Waycross Georgia to Green and Catherine Elizabeth Barnes, she passed to be with her Savior on Monday November 14, 2011.

She graduated from Savannah High School and Cincinnati Bible Seminary where she met and married Donald Whitman on June 16, 1943. He preceded her in death on June 18, 2002. The couple moved to Joplin in 1953 where they raised their family of five children.

Muriel was a Sunday School Teacher for many years and she worked for Singer Sewing Company and the Joplin R. V111 School District as a secretary. She attended Park Plaza Christian Church.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a stepfather, Roy Barnett, a step brother, Roy BarnettJR. and a son in law Jerry Webster.

She is survived by her children. Donna Glasgow and husband Dennis of Hobbs, New Mexico. Roberta Webster of Joplin; Cathy Robinson and husband Tim of Joplin. David Whitman of Joplin. and Marcia Whitman of Joplin. six grandchildren, Joel, Travis, Chris, Dan, and Kevin; 10 greatgrandchildren.

Graveside services will be Thursday November 17, 2011 at 10a.m. in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 11a.m. at Park Plaza Christian Church with Rev. B.A. Austin officiating.

The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Wednesday from 6-7p.m.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Park Plaza Christian Church.
