Ira and Georgia were married in Stuart, Hughes county, Oklahoma on 21 Dec 1909.

Georgie was known to have lived in Alabama, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Missouri and California. Some of her ancestors came from Tennessee and Mississippi.

Grandma had a total of 11 children, 2 of which never made it to adulthood which is noted below.

I was told that during the depression Grandpa Ira would travel by wagon to find work, leaving her to tend to her children with the help of the older children.
Having no means of transportation Grandma and her kids would walk to church each Sunday.

They washed their laundry in a near by creek, they didn't have our luxuries.

Some of the local people would give grandma the runt from a litter of pigs that grandma would nurse it back to health until it was big enough to give the family meat. It was said the same about sickly calves.

She could also throw a rock and hit anything she wanted, which she did often. She was known to hit rabbits and a squirrel right out of a tree, that helped her to feed the family.

Grandma was also a midwife. She helped deliver a boy and the mother hemorrhaged severely and passed away. Grandma raised the infant on her own breast until the father came to get him when he was about two years of age. I was never told the name of the father or son and I don't think that I ever thought to ask.

They lived in Jasper county, Carthage, Missouri before moving to California. Looking at the date of birth for their daughter Elizabeth, she was born in 1930 in Carthage, Missouri and their daughter, Dovie Marie date of death, 1944, we know that they lived in Carthage at least 14 years.
