Mr. William David Boyd, 79, died Tuesday night (February 7, 2012) at his residence after an extended illness.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Ware County. As a Korean War Army Veteran, he served in Japan and Korea and received four bronze stars for his service. He attended Kettle Creek Southern Congregational Methodist Church, and he was formerly employed by Eldridge Hardware.

He is the son of the late Dick Boyd and Aline Cribb Boyd. He is preceded in death by his wife, Billie Mercer Boyd; six brothers, Ernie, Lonnie, Arlen, Jessie, June and Lamar Boyd; and one sister, Mary Fay Haymond.

Survivors include two daughters, Vicki Jones (husband Albert) of Telmore, and Tammy Spradley (husband Donnie) of Blackshear; four grandchildren, Brandon Spradley (wife Heather), Kyle Perry (wife Ashley), Amber Harden (husband Josh), and Courtney McCorvey (husband Brock); eight great grandchildren, Tyler and Laney Spradley, Molly, Masyn and Macey Perry, Bentley and Ariana Harden, and Lendon McCorvey; 11 siblings, Geneva White of Manor, Aline Corbitt of Waycross, Wanell Boyd (husband Emory) of Manor, Mamie Woods of Florida, James Henderson (wife Jeanette) of Waycross, Gail Wilson (husband Johnny) of Waycross, Minnie Lea Week (husband Tony) of Waycross, Leanette Melton of Waycross, Lucy Yunash of Waycross, Robert Boyd (wife Sheila) of Waycross, and Joe Boyd of Blackshear; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday (February 10, 2012) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will follow in Kettle Creek Cemetery.
