James Elwood Deas, 88, passed from this life on November 12, 2011, with his loving family at his side. He leaves his devoted wife of 65 years, Dorothy Deas; his daughters, Carolyn A. Deas and Janice L. Deas; and a son, James E. Deas, Jr. (Janet); three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Survivors also include a brother, Bogan C. Deas of Sumter, SC. He was a member of Germantown Church of Christ and former Deacon at Floyd Avenue Church of Christ. After serving in WWII, he later retired from the Navy as Senior Chief. The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 15, from 5-7 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Poplar Avenue. The service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with interment in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Germantown Church of Christ or a charity of the donor's choice.
