GALENA, Ill. - Mary R. "Rosie" Schmidt, 66, of Galena, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at the Galena-Stauss Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Galena, with the Rev. Daniel Tranel officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena, where there will be a scripture wake service at 6:30 p.m.
Mrs. Schmidt worked at the former Burgess Battery Factory, Galena, Eaton Corp., Hanover, and Atwoods, Stockton.
She was born on Aug. 16, 1933, in Galena, daughter of Joseph and Cecilia (Rieter) Heim. She married Donald "Bing" Schmidt on June 9, 1956; he died on Nov. 23, 1994.
She spent all her life in this area and was a graduate of Galena High School, class of 1951. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Galena, and the Galena Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion.
Surviving are a son, Steven (Mary) Schmidt, of Freeport; two grandchildren, Sidney and Casey Schmidt; a brother, Donald (Elaine) Heim, of California; and nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Jo Ann Winter; and an infant twin sister.
