Follows Husband to Grave

Mrs. Mary Jane Luce, just one month after the death of her husband, William (Henry) Luce, died here Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Luce had been failing for a long time and her death was not unexpected. She was very ill when her companion of nearly sixty-five years passed away. Mrs. Luce was a native of Maine, and past 84 years of age, and had lived in this vicinity over 50 years. The funeral will be held tomorrow. A regular obituary notice will appear next week.

The funeral of Mrs. Mary Jane Luce was held from the Methodist church in Lincoln, Friday, February 16. Rev. Thomas Ray officiating. A choir rendered funeral hymns impressively. The internment was in the Odd Fellows cemetery – all that was mortal of this good woman was laid to rest beside the remains of her companion of over 3 score years who had preceded her to the grave only a few weeks.

Mrs. Luce lived a long and useful life that was filled with good deeds – a life that was consecrated to helpfulness for others and made additionally beautiful by an unswerving devotion to her home and loved ones. She was a devoted Christian and attended church regularly until her failing health prevented. Her faith and her Christian character were genuine, and surely if there is any foundation for the Christian faith when her soul awoke in spirit, the lights were all turned low, noiseless feet were moving near, and all the divine instruments were playing a soft refrain of welcome. Celestial hands were weaving her good deeds into a crown for her to wear, and the "well done, good and faithful servant" was the greeting she received. The peace of eternity has wrapped her around like a robe and her rest will surely be sweet.

Mrs. Luce is survived by two sons, George W. Luce of Lincoln and Albert Luce of Richmond.
