He was born Oct. 21, 1937, in Winona, to Wilmer and Harriet (Styba) Braatz. Jim was a graduate of both Cotter High School and Winona Business College.
Jim was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. After almost 40 years of working at Watkin's Products in the payroll and accounting department, he retired due to health concerns.
Jim was a lifelong avid baseball fan. He took great joy in being an uncle and was very proud of his nieces and nephews and their children.
He is survived by his sisters, Mary Braatz of Winona, and Carol (Lee) Schwartzhoff of La Crescent, Minn.; seven nieces and nephews and their families; brother-in-law, Richard Leary; as well as other relatives and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Judith Leary.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 30, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. The Rev. Thomas J. Hargesheimer will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church on Friday from 9 until 10:15 a.m.
