John Borschell, eighty years of age last July, and a resident of this city for 22 years, died suddenly Saturday afternoon at his present home in Sawtelle, Calif. Messages announcing his death were received Saturday evening by Alvin E. Borschell, a son who is cashier at the Grand Valley National bank, and W. H. Borschell, nearby fruit rancher. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Borschell and W. H. Borschell left on Saturday night for Sawtelle. Until they reach that city they will not know whether the body will be returned here for burial, or whether interment will be made there. John Borschell was one of the early day settlers in the Grand Valley, coming here 22 years ago. During the many years of his residence here he was active in the affairs of the city and the county. A veteran of the Civil war, he was active in the Grand Army. In recent years Mr. Borschell, his wife and daughter, Miss Pearl, made their home at Sawtelle, where the national military home is located. While none of the particulars of the passing of this old soldier and pioneer of the valley were received here, it is known that death must have come suddenly, as only a few days ago a letter was received from Sawtelle, and there was no mention of Mr. Borschell being in failing health. Mr. Borschell is survived by his wife, two sons, Alvin and W. H. Borschell, and two daughters, Miss Pearl and Mrs. Leon Chapman. Further word is expected soon announcing whether the body will be returned here for burial or whether it will be laid to rest at Sawtelle.
