Dorothy E. Pinkerton, age 82, of North Gay Street, Mount Vernon, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Knox Community Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 25, 1927 in Logan, Ohio to the late Clearance and Lesta (Neighbarger) Turner. Dorothy worked 27 years as a 5th and 7th grade teacher in the Fredericktown School System. She later retired from the processing office at First Knox National Bank in Mount Vernon. Dorothy enjoyed the simple things in life such as baking, crocheting, knitting or needlepoint and has made various pillowcases and afghans for family members. She enjoyed her traveling on the bus tours and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

She is survived by her loving family, two daughters, Rhonda Holley of Mount Vernon, Cara (Allan) Cunningham of Burlington, North Carolina, four grandchildren, Aaron Woosley, Andy Woosley, Crystal Woosley and Sierra Spires, a great granddaughter, Kelsey Woosley, two brothers, Floyd (Frances) Turner of Westerville, Forest (Sue) Turner of Columbus, two sisters, Ruby (Howard) Miller of Fredericktown and Corena (Don) Blankenship of Mount Vernon.

Besides her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Clyde Turner and a sister Lenora McGough.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 1 to 3 PM and 6 to 8 PM at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 2 PM. Burial will follow in Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown, Ohio.
