Lelia E. Stewart, 81, formerly of Kahoka, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 1985, at 7 a.m. at the Big Spring Manor Nursing Home in Huntsville, Ala. The daughter of Charles A. and Susianna Rose Martin Kirchner, she was born on Aug. 14, 1904, in Clark County. She married Harry E. (Cappy) Stewart at Kahoka on May 8, 1928, and he died on Aug. 27, 1978. Survivors include one son: Jack Charles Stewart of Hillsboro; four daughters, Mrs. John (Joy Beth) Hays of Independence, Mrs. Paul (Neva Rose) Steege of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Duane (Lelia Elaine) Plank of Huntsville, Ala., and Jewel Kay Scott of Raytown; one sister, Mrs. Clifford (Louise) Harper of Kahoka; 13 grandchildren; one great grandchild; and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter; two brothers, Albert P. Kirchner and Martin C. Kirchner; two sisters; Alma K. Rauscher and Freda McFall. Mrs. Stewart was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ and member of the Women's Guild; attended Culver-Stockton College; and taught school at Diamond, Union and Pride of the West Schools, before her marriage. She also served several terms as Democratic Committeewoman for Jackson Township. She and her husband farmed and lived near Antioch from 1924 to 1969. Services were held Saturday, Nov. 25, at 2 p.m. at the St. Paul United Church of Christ with the Rev. William Harper officiating. Burial was in the Kahoka Cemetery. Organist was Alice Heinze and guitarist and soloist, Susan Steege.
