Simon Holt was born 1736 in King and Queen County, Virginia to Richard Holt. He married Sarah Hines, daughter of James and Ann (Singleton) Hines on 6 Jul 1763 in Richmond County, Virginia.
Simon and Sarah had 10 children: Robert Hall and James Hines (twins), Singleton, Thaddeus George, Peyton, Hines, Raleigh, Tarpley, Samuel Simon and Nancy Ann Singleton. All were born in Virginia.
According to his obituary Simon "was one of the patriots of the revolution." His brother Thomas Holt was killed at Battle of Camden on 16 Aug 1780.
The Holt family migrated to Georgia in 1798. By this time Robert Hall and James Hines had married and accompanied the family. They initially settled in Hancock County but may have moved to Eatonton in Putnam County by 1811. By 1816 Simon and Sarah were living with their son Hines Holt in his estate called Bellmore Farm about 7 miles north of Milledgeville.
He died at Bellmore Farm on 28 Aug 1816. His remains "were deposited in the Family Cemetery at Bellmore Farm" on Friday the 30th of August at 4 o'clock P.M.
The children of Simon and Sarah were very successful in the pursuits. Some became doctors, others lawyers and a few politicians. His great grandson Alfred Holt Colquitt became Governor of Georgia in 1876 and U.S. Senator in 1894.
