Norma E. Carlson, 71, Hibbing, passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2011, at University Medical Center-Mesabi in Hibbing. She was born Norma Elaine Jokinen on March 13, 1940 at Chisholm, the daughter of Elmer and Sally (Kangas) Jokinen.
She grew up in Chisholm, where she graduated from high school. She married Robert G. Carlson in Chisholm on August 22, 1959.
After marriage the couple lived in Cook, and Ely for a time, and have resided in Hibbing since 1969. Norma was a dedicated homemaker all of her married life. She had a disability from an auto accident soon after marriage, and Bob became a wonderful, award winning caregiver to her. He was a mechanic and worked for Security Garage in Hibbing for 25 years. In the early years he was a mechanic at Mike Motors in Ely, the Ford Garage in Chisholm and Gustafson Motors in Cook. She loved her pets and craft working. Most of all she cherished the time spent with family, especially her nieces and nephews. She had various committed caregivers throughout the years, and the family wishes to acknowledge the care, friendship and "above and beyond" care bestowed by Becky Powers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert on July 6, 2009
Norma is survived by her sisters: Hazel (Joe) Nosie, Helen (Gerald) Michaelis; brother, Donald (Barbara) Jokinen; sister-in-law, Helen (Arvid) Edblom; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Interment was in the Cook Community Cemetery.
