Pamela Layton Smith, 57, of Carmel. IN. formerly of Greensburg, IN. passed away Tuesday November 8, 2011 at her residence. She was born July 3, 1954 in New Albany, IN. the daughter of Don N. and Sara Jane (Springmier) Layton. She received her Masters Degree from Butler University in 1976 and her Teaching Certificates from Indiana University in 1978. She was a teacher at Carmel Clay Junior High School for 34 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church Greensburg, the Delta Gamma Sorority, and the Indiana State Teachers Association. She married Robert A. Smith on March 31, 1984 at the Sandusky United Methodist Church in Greesnburg, Indiana and he survives.

Pamela is also survived by two Step-Daughters: Shannon Barnes and Christy Schlemmer both of Greensburg, IN. One Sister: Peggy A. Layton of Indianapolis, IN. and Six Grandchildren: Brooklyn & Alyssa Barnes Tessa Schott, Nicholas & Megan Schlemmer and Addison Meyer. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one Brother: Larry S. Layton.

Friends may call at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home on Friday, November 11, 2011 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in the South Park Cemetery Greensburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
