Samuel Brunson "Sonny" Owens, 80, a life-long resident of Woodville, Texas, died after a short illness on Monday, November 7, 2011.

Sonny was born in Woodville on June 8, 1931.

He was a 1949 graduate of Beaumont French High School and briefly attended Lamar College. He was a veteran of the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen Brunson & Allie Margaret Barge Owens of Woodville, and his sister, Jo Ann Owens Darden of Waco.

He is survived by his brother-in-law, Col. Robert F. Darden Jr. (USAF Ret.) of Waco; nephews, Robert F. Darden III & wife, Dr. Mary Landon Darden of San Antonio and Steven Lane Darden & wife, Dr. Ellen Clough Darden of Blacksburg, VA; niece, Danni Leigh Mayfield & husband, Dan Mayfield of Waco; seven nieces & nephews and two great-nephews.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, November 12th at 2:00pm at the Magnolia Cemetery in Woodville. Officiating will be Dr. Raymond A. Parker.

Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.
