She was the daughter of John Sahr and Anna Fuchs. Margaret and George were parents of eight children: Frederick (1880-1880); Hilda (1881-);Estella (1883-1972); Agnes E (1889-); Otto(1891-); George Henry (1893-1958); Oscar W (1894-)and Lota Sophia Bassman(1897-).
A retired farmer, George and his wife Margaretta raised their children in Cole County, Missouri from the early nineteen hundreds.
He died when he was 96 years, 2 months and 6 days old at the home of his daughter, Agnes E Jones who lived at 802 Jefferson Street, Jefferson City, Missouri. The cause of his death was Pneumonia (Hypostatic), with Senility and Generalized Arteriosclerosis as contributing factors
He was buried at Riverview Cemetery on July 20, 1953.

He followed farming until March, 1890 when he moved to Jefferson City. A year later he began his own business, leasing the Farmer?s Home of which he continued for three years. He then engaged successfully in farming for the next three years when he then formed a partnership with John M. Sommerer, purchasing the grocery business from Lawrence Wagner, now called Sommerer & Bassman. Mr. Bassman married Margaretta Sahr on September 30, 1879. To this union eight children were born: Frederick, the eldest, died in infancy; Hilda, Estella, Agnes, Otto, twins George and Oscar, and Sophia. The family made their home at 802 Jefferson Street, Jefferson City.
