Robert Lee Robertson 1882 - 1944 was the 1st child of 4 children of John Robertson and Arminda Hobbs. He was born 2 Jan 1882 near the farm town of Berlin, located on the southern boarder of Gentry County, Missouri. When was Robert 5 years old, his mother died 7 days after a difficult child-birth of his brother William Samuel Robertson. William also pasted away 14 months later.

Robert’s father married for a second time to a Mary Jane Beeler, on 23 Dec 1888. His step-mother tried to raise Robert, but it would never be the same for him. Robert preferred to stay with his grandmother and grandfather Hobbs in the early years, afterwards, he spent his teen years working on the farm of his grandfather Samuel Robertson’s.

Robert joined the US Army between 1901 - 1905 and was deployed 22 months in the Philippines during the Spanish/American War. He was attached to the 13th Infantry, Company B. There was no formal declaration of war issued for he Spanish/American War. Two reasons have been given for this: One, the Philippine Insurrection or police action, was painted as a rebellion against a lawful government, although the only part of the Philippines under American control was Manila. The other reason, the American government could avoid liability of claims by veterans of the action.

Not long after Robert’s Honorable Discharge from the US Army, Robert, age 24, married Clevie Mercedes Best, 1 Mar 1906. They had large country celebration with friends and family. Clevie was from Fairport, a town south of Berlin in DeKalb County. Clevie was the 2nd child of 7 siblings, of William Best and Nancy Williams. William Best's family were long time residence of the northeastern part of Missouri.

One year later, Robert and Clevie had their only child, Cleo Lee Robertson. Cleo was born 8 Mar 1907 near King City of Gentry County, Missouri at Clevie’s parents home. Robert's Uncles James and Hiram Hobbs helped Robert into the oil field business. They were very supportive and lived in the same area as Robert moved to place to place. The oil field profession led him and his family to many townships between Kansas and Oklahoma through out his career.

In 1909, Robert and he’s family lived near Emporia of Lyons County, Kansas. Robert worked taking care of field pumps of that area. When his 10 years son Cleo became a surrogate elder brother to Vivian Rictor, the daughter of Frank Rictor and Mary Best and sister of Clevie’s. Vivian's mother, Mary, dies from a serious illness when Vivian was 3 months old. Robert’s family raised Vivian as a Robertson for the grateful Frank Rictor, who raised 3 older siblings of Vivian. Frank never remarried.

In 1921 Robert and his family moved to Oklahoma, after starting employment with the Shell Oil Company. They lived in several counties of northeastern Oklahoma. First living in Seminole county, followed by Garber of Garfield County. Robert’s son Cleo married Rosella Ella Mashburn on 17 Apr 1926 in Garfield County. In the 1930s, Robert, Clevie, and Vivian age 11 moved to Bigheart in Osage County before moving to Avant in Osage County, where they stayed until 1939, before they moved to Skiatook in Osage County.

While in Skiatook, Robert, 62 years, took ill with a brain tumor during 1944, forcing him to be admitted in a Veteran’s Hospital at Muskogee, Oklahoma, where passed away on 16 Apr 1944. Robert was laid to rest in the Collinsville Cemetery. His beloved wife, Clevie, lived the remainder of her life in Skiatook near her grandson George Robertson. She lived to know 7 generations of Robertson's. Clevie passed away 15 Feb 1985, age 99, and was laid to rest next to Robert.
