WILLARD, WM R GRIFFITH, EBENEZER ORN, JOHN HAFF, AND JOSEPH DELANEY
WRITTEN 1-18-1821 REC 8-9-1821
I HAVE USED DATE OF RECORDING OF WILL AS DEATH DATE

James is thought to have married Elizabeth Piety about 1780 in Kentucky. I have not found actual marriage record at this time. There is good evidence to support this. James and family are found in St Louis area before U S bought Louisianna from france. There is a land claim for 1796 for 1600 apertes. That is probably the same land mentioned in his probate documents. As for his parentage his father was probably Archibald McDonald. Both James and Joshua,a brother, both named children Archibald Mc Donald. James was appoitted to oversee the estate of Joshua McDonald in 1808 in St Louis Co Mo. In the probate papers there are several pages from 1821 where the children and wife of Joshua McDonald are attaching claims to James McDonald estate to get their inheritance due them from Joshua back in 1808. James must not have given them all they thought they should have.

James McDonald was probably one of the men to be given 1000 acres of land along Cox's creek. This was dated April 26,1780. Issued by the Virginia land Commission at St Asaph (Stanford). This was in nelson Co Ky. about five miles northeast of Bardstown. James was probably a member of Col Isaac Cox group that went down the Ohio river in ca 1775.
