Rev. Dr. Robert S. Mosby was the son of a Methodist Minister. He was ordained a deacon in 1919 and Elder in 1923. His father the Rev. William H. Mosby was a Methodist Minister with the Christian Methodist Church. His mother Popie died in 1953 and is buried at Tivy Mountain Cemetery, Kerrville, TX.

On March 20, 1918 Rev. Mosby married the former Henrietta Blanks. She preceded him in death in 1962 and is buried in her hometown of Kerrville. To this union there only child Dorothy was born. He later married Bernice.

He retired in 1967 from Jacob's Chapel, San Antonio. He was immediately transferred from the West Texas Conference to the Southwest Texas Conference where he became the consultant on Merger for two years. In retirement he was the Associate Minister of Chapel Hill UMC, San Antonio. He was serving as the Pastor for Lytle UMC where he was preaching to an adoring and enthusiastic congregation. He died on October 13, 1980.

Rev. Mosby was educated at Sam Houston College, Northwestern University and Garrett Theology Seminary. His first appointment was at St. Paul Methodist, Floresville, TX. He then went to Chicago, Lexington and Indianapolis returning to Texas as Pastor of St. Paul Methodist, San Antonio, TX.

Bishop Ernest T. Dixon, Jr conducted his funeral on October 17th in Lytle, assisted by Rev. Morris Daugherty, Rev. Tony Brantley and Rev. Don Pevey. Dr. Mosby was survived by his wife Bernice, Dorothy and stepson Ernest. His grandsons and nephews served as his pallbearers. Dr. Mosby was one of the great pulpit orators of the Church. Spiritually sensitive, mentally competent, he was eloquent and poetic in his sermons. He published a book of poems from which several were read at his funeral. His mark upon Methodism will endure, those whom he guided in the faith will remain faithful and each Church he severed will remember his with gratitude.
