Sarah Elizabeth Martin was born in New York City, New York in November of 1832. Her parents were Charles Martin and Susan Shope. She was married two times. Sarah's first husband was Edward R. Lavielle. Her second was Robert Anderson (son of Robert Anderson and Margaret Russell of Glasgow, Scotland). They were married on November 11, 1857. They had four children named Charles Malcolm, Jennie Russell (Mrs. Baumann and Mrs. Harvey Edward Simpson), Robert Lincoln, and Agnes Baird (Mrs. Herman Thomas Havelock Russell and Mrs. Joshua Ellis Rohrer). Sarah died on July 20, 1911 at 410 Fenimore in brooklyn, New York. Her burial took place on May 1, 1912. She is buried with a granddaughter of her's named Jennie Madaline Russell Rohrer. The grave is unmarked and located by a fallen stone (see photo at right).
