A home made sign language, crude in the extreme, yet remarkably effective, and most workable and practicable, was in evidence this morning in police court in the case of the state against Francisco P, charged with larceny of a small amount of money from one, Marcos Fresquez, who is probably about 25 years of age and deaf and dumb. Marcos has never heard a word nor uttered a sound and has never had the advantages of education. His sign language is that which he has developed himself. In all ways, it is unlike that used in deaf and dumb schools today. Marcos took the stand this morning as prosecuting witness charging Francisco with taking $7 from his pocket. A relative who knew the signs acted as interperter. The court was amazed at the speed, accuracy, and interpretation of this new and strange language.
