She was born Velma Mae Wilson on Dec. 14, 1908, in Newkirk, Ok, one of four children to Mary Elizabeth and Robert E. Wilson. They soon moved to Greeley, Co, for a short time, and then to Cheyenne where she attended school. She married Fred L. Kaysbier, a Union Pacific railroader in July 1924.
From 1924, Velma worked at the old Cheyenne Steam Laundry and later the Laramie County Memorial Hospital laundry followed by business interest in Kaysbier Food Market, The Melody Lane, Teepee Village Truck Stop Restaurant and the Chiffon Cafe, all in Cheyenne, until 1971.
From 1971 until 1986, she resided in Douglas with her family and operated the Mesa Theatre and Star Drive In Theatre. In 1986 she moved with her son to Aurora, where she engaged in the business of a video rental store. She retired in 1990 at the age of 81.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978; her sisters, Alice and Grace; and brother, Robert; and daughter, Ruby.
Mrs. Kaysbier is survived by daughter, Mary Alice Van Zandt of Westminster, Co; and son, Fred L. Kaysbier of Aurora; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be 1-4pm Monday (March 3, 2008) at Newcomer Family East Chapel. Graveside Services will be 2pm Tuesday (March 4, 2008) at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens in Cheyenne with Chaplain Scott Jimenez officiating. Newcomer Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Aurora will be handling arrangements.
