She is survived by her daughter, Gayle (Arn) Birrell, West Jordan; a sister, Ivy Christiansen, Salt Lake City; five grandchildren, Cheryl (Steve) Sillitoe of Cedar City, Utah, Rebecca (Craig) Schaugaard of Ogden, Utah, John (Jeralyn) Birrell of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Lisa (Ric) Madge of London, England, and Robert, West Jordan; nine great-grandchildren, Chad, Jamie and Christopher Sillitoe, Sandy, Gary, and Amber Schaugaard, and Korbin, Krissinie and Austin Birrell. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, June and Norma; and her brother, Vance. She and her husband were foster parents to many children. She worked as a day-care worker and also as bakery manager for Dans Foods on 33rd South in Salt Lake. Before her marriage, her father moved a home onto her future in-laws property in Hooper, Utah They then remodeled and added to the home. This was Ruth and Bert's first home. They lived most of their lives at 2185 E. Westminster Avenue in Salt Lake City. She later lived at Crosslands Retirement Center in Sandy and the last two years of her life at the South Valley Health Center in West Jordan. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at the SVHC for their care of Ruth during these difficult times.
Funeral services Thursday, August 5th, at 10 a.m. at the downtown Larkin Chapel, 260 E. South Temple. The first viewing will be in Sandy, Utah on Wednesday evening, 6:30-8 p.m., at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Chapel, 10600 South 1700 East, and the second viewing will be at the downtown Larkin Chapel on Thursday, 9 to 9:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
