From An Illustrated History of Lyon County, Minnesota by Arthur P Rose, 1912, page 525:

"MRS. ANNETTE HARDEN (1896) is the proprietor of a general store in the village of Russell. She was born in La Salle county, Illinois, September 23, 1849, a daughter of Clement and Susan (Worsley) Eastman, both of whom are deceased. Mrs. Harden received her schooling in Illinois, where she resided with her parents until twenty-four years of age.

January 1, 1873, the subject of this review was married to Eugene Furbush, a native of Lasalle county. To this union was born one child, Mrs. Stella Carlaw, of Russell, the widow of the late Archie Carlaw. Mrs. Carlaw is the junior member of the firm of Carlaw & Harden, general merchants of Russell. In 1877 Mr. and Mrs. Furbush moved to Redfield, South Dakota, where they resided twelve years, when Mrs. Furbush and her daughter, Stella, returned to Illinois, where they remained, with the exception of a year spent in South Dakota, until 1896. That year our subject was married at Lake Benton to H. W. B. Harden, of Russell. Mrs. Harden has resided in Russell since that date. For the past fourteen years she has been identified with the mercantile business of that village.

For ten years Mrs. Harden conducted the store now known as the Farmers Co-operative Store, selling to the co-operative company in June, 1907. In June, 1910, in company with her son-in-law, Archie Carlaw, she purchased the Jay Peterson stock of general merchandise. October 13, 1911, Mr. Carlaw died, and since that time his wife has had charge of the interest formerly held by him. They handle a complete stock of dry goods, groceries, notions and millinery. They have a neat, up-to-date stock and have been very successful."

"Annette C. Harden Dies Suddenly

Passed Away Saturday Morning at C. P. Eastman Home Following Stroke

Angel of death called Mrs. Annette Harden to her reward early Saturday morning, when she passed away at the home of her brother, C. P. Eastman.

She had gone to the Eastman home the evening before, seemingly in the best of health. As her daughter, Mrs. Germain was in the Cities on business, Eastmans desired that she stay with them rather than stay alone in the millinery store. Early Saturday morning, heavy breathing was heard from her room, and when asked what was wrong, she complained of having trouble to breathe, then passed quietly away. A stroke of apoplexy was the direct cause.

Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon by Rev. Holst at the Eastman home. Interment was in Pine Ridge cemetery.

Annette C. Harden was born September 24, 1849 in LaSalle county, Ill. She married W. H. B. Harden in 1875 and for several years they resided in South Dakota. He preceded her in death several years. For 20 years, she lived in southern Minnesota, and later in Minneapois, and came to Pine River a year ago and entered the millinery business in company with her daughter.

She leaves to mourn her departure, an only daughter, Mrs. J. H. Germain and one brother, C. P. Eastman."
