Mrs. Williams, nee Lucy Fletcher, was the widow of Dr. Richard P. Williams. A native of Vermont, she was one of 15 children born to Jesse Fletcher and the former Lucy Keynes. Her siblings included an elder brother who saw to it that she received a good education, and two sisters who joined her in becoming prominent citizens of the village of Newark, NY: Laura (wife of Dr. Cyrus Button) and Louisa (wife of Maj. Joseph A. Miller, whose father had founded the village). A former schoolteacher, Lucy married Dr. Williams in 1816. In 1823 they moved from Bennington, VT, to Newark, where he continued to practice medicine until his death in 1850. Williams, who had also helped to establish a local asylum, a legal publishing company, and the Sodus Point & Southern RR. Mrs. Williams, whose gravestone eulogizes her as "Beloved Mother", died at the age of 96.
